U12 Division 6.

Lakewood Athletic B 2 Wilton Utd B 4

A disappointing midweek match for the U12B who eventually lost 4-2 to Wilton Utd B at Lakewood. Wilton brought a substantial squad with them both in player size and numbers. The match started out a very scrappy affair with no team dominating. This changed as the match progressed with Wilton looking more dangerous and they broke the deadlock at 20 minutes with a goal into the top corner. This was soon followed by a simple goal after several goalmouth scrambles as Lakewood were unable to clear the ball. Once more Tareq made several fine saves in the half to keep Lakewood in the match. Lakewood created the one chance with an Owen header from a corner that just sailed past the post.

In the second half Lakewood came out fighting and started creating chances. Sean made a great pass through the Wilton defence for Bradley to slot it past the keeper. Another goal minutes later had the match all square when a cross by Owen caused confusion between the keeper and defender deflecting the ball into the goal. A long distance free-kick by Jake could have given Lakewood the lead but unfortunately the crossbar saved Wilton. Tareq performed heroics in the goal all throughout the match but in the last 10 minutes Wilton piled on the pressure again and were rewarded with 1 own goal and a simple tap in. Two goals down but the Lakewood team persisted, winning corner after corner that they just couldn’t convert.

A great team effort once more to come from two goals down to level the match but just conceding late goals once more cost them a well earned share of the spoils. Outstanding débuts for Christopher Costello and Brendan Linehan who put in some great challenges throughout the match.
