U12 Albert Conboye Cup Last 16

Mallow Town 5 – Lakewood Athletic B 0

On a fine summer evening in Mallow both teams met for a place in the quarter finals of the cup. It was always going to be a tough battle with Mallow looking assured of promotion to Division 2 having lost only once in eleven matches. Lakewood more than held their own for the first 10 minutes but there were odd moments after when the 4 divisions between the teams was apparent. The deadlock was broken after 12 minutes when Mallow secured the first goal and the second soon followed. Lakewood composed themselves and neither team made any real chances up until half time.

The players were reminded that the next goal was vital and that it was within them to bounce back after coming back from 3 nil down in their previous league match. Ten minutes of even play but Mallow took their chance to secure the victory. Lakewood made 5 substitutes and went in the hunt for a goal of their own, piling players up-field for set pieces only to be caught on the break twice more.

A strong Lakewood performance from a team missing several players but ably supported by guest appearances from the U11’s Chris, Jack and Brendan. Chris and Jack pairing up well on the left wing and Jack even borrowing an invisible motorbike once to catch and make a super tackle in the box. Some outstanding performances from the U12 players, most notably David, Ronan and Owen. Bring this form into the remaining league games and I am sure you’ll gather a few more points. Well done lads.
