A superb performance all round from Lakewood U14 girls resulted in a well-deserved win over Carrigaline on Tuesday evening. Lakewood started the game with great intensity and energy, pinning Carrigaline back from the start with Ciara & Heidi starting brightly up front and the midfield of Holly Emily and Laura eager to take on the defence at every opportunity.
Heidi O Sullivan settled the team when she scored her first goal with 10 minutes on the clock, neatly side stepping the diving goal keeper and slotting the ball neatly to the net. Ten minutes later she had her second when her strike from an impossible angle snuck in at the near post. Heidi could have added to the score sheet but for the resolute Carrigaline defence and the cross bar.
The platform for this victory was built from the back with Lily May O Farrell again excellent in goals. A strong back four of Maebh & Sadbh Niamh and Aoife along with Sophie who broke down multiple attacks breaking through midfield. When called upon Lucy & Cliona played their part in what was a great victory for a team whose hard work in training is starting to yield results.
