U14 Sketchers Local Cup

Lakewood Athletic 10 Park Utd 1

The U14 Premier squad, aided by 4 plucky U13 players, made it through to the last 16 with what proved to be a game of two halves against a resilient Park United. In the first half Lakewood could not convert all the chances created. Lakewood went ahead inside 10 minutes only for Park to level it with a penalty on 18 minutes. Lakewood went into half time 2 -1 up but needed to steady the nerves for the second half and not allow Park Utd to get their confidence up with an early goal. The second half still had Lakewood well in control, much like the first, but the difference was that the chances were being put away now. It wasn’t long before Lakewood were comfortably ahead but there were still occasions when Park broke through the defence. Paul Omoshule had to make an important well timed tackle and Michael Brennan had to be fast off the mark to clear the ball several times. Shane Hughes and Michael Murphy had to be vigilant to keep Parks gifted left winger under control and limit his chances whilst Reece Parsons controlled the left side of defence. As the game concluded Lakewood were scoring on virtually every attack as the Park players dropped their heads. The Lakewood Premier squad progress to the round of 16 where they will meet Ballincollig in a local derby.

Scorers today, Jamie Dineen 5, Danny O’Driscoll 3, Colm Quigley 2
