Corinthians 3 Lakewood 1
What a performance from Lakewood who pushed runaway league leaders Corinthians all the way in their own back yard before a breakaway goal 2 mins from time finally decided the outcome but not before Lakewood had come so close to grabbing a deserved equaliser. Scoreless at half time with nothing between the teams a long clearance from Corinthians 10mins into the second half was just reached first by a Corinthians boot to grab the lead. A super strike from distance made it a flattering 2-0 but Lakewood were never out of it. Michael Murphy made a tremendous run in behind and his effort went agonisingly wide of the far post. Jamie Dineen had a screamer well tipped over before Jamie’s free kick was met by James Dwyer for 2-1. Pouring forward now Lakewood were playing great stuff and Jamie’s effort from an angle skimmed the far post with the keeper beaten. So close for 2-2 but as the minutes ticked away a booted clearance was chased down by the nippy centre forward who finished well and secured the points for the home side. They will not be relishing the prospect of the return game in Ovens next month .
