Midleton B 1 – Lakewood Athletic B 5

Santa delivered an early Christmas present of 3 points to the visiting Lakewood team in what started out as a close game but ended up being more one sided in the second half. Lakewoood tried to get to grips with the game but the break came after 15 minutes after some clever passing lead to Jack Davis playing the ball in from the right wing for Sean O’Sullivan to put the ball in the net. Midleton made numerous subs for the restart, bringing on fast wingers but assistant manager Denis O’Sullivan remembered the players from earlier in the season and Lakewood players were repositioned at the same time. The first half ended with the one goal separating the teams with stand in keeper Fintan O’Leary having little to do. Minutes into the second half and Lakewood were two up after Jake O’Kelly put the ball into the box for Paul Omoshule to rocket it into the roof of the net. Paul also got the third after Jack put the ball through the defence again and his shot ricocheted of 2 defenders to leave the keeper stranded. Kerry William also got onto the score sheet now with 2 well taken goals, one slotted into the bottom left and one into the bottom right after through balls from Jake and Paul left him running onto the keeper. Midleton managed to get 1 goal back at the 4 nil scoreline after a lack of concentration, which was expertly celebrated with a few flips by the scorer. This was a real team effort today from all players, with outstanding performances from Mark McSweeney, Oscar Rickard and Tadhg Tuathaigh, who seemed to be everywhere and was unlucky not to score on several occasions.
