Mallow A 2 Lakewood B 3
Lakewood Athletic U12B move to third after thrilling victory over Mallow United A
On a glorious spring morning at Lakewood, the U12B team maintained their unbeaten run at home with a convincing but somewhat nervous win over league leaders Mallow United A. In the first half the Lakewood boys took their chances whilst Mallow were off the mark. The first goal came after 9 minutes when striker Bradley Keane collected the ball near the half way mark before beating the Mallow players to go onto goal to slot it calmly underneath the keeper. Great interplay between Sean O’ Sullivan, Jack Davis and Ronan Murphy on the wing lead to the second goal with Ronan playing the ball across goal for a simple tap in for Luke Davis after the keeper spilled the ball. At the half time break Lakewood were warned to be alert as Mallow would come out strong, and they did not disappoint. Within 30 seconds they had 1 goal back as their largest player drove through the middle of the team to beat advancing keeper Tareq Ibrahiam. Lakewood players needed to steady themselves and did so with some excellent play. Owen Beamish had his header saved off the line after another great free kick from Jake O’Kelly. Oscar Rickard and Jake delivered excellent balls into the danger area the entire match. Jack Davis had a chance after the Mallow keeper took a poor kick out only to hit the post but was rewarded with an assist minutes later. A great pass out from Oscar was driven by Jack through the Mallow defence for Jake to run onto to slot the ball into the bottom corner. The drama wasn’t finished as Mallow piled on the pressure for the last 10 minutes. A goalmouth scramble lead to a handball decision and a penalty for Mallow which was put into the bottom corner. Adam English, Mark McSweeney and Oscar were defiant in defence clearing many loose balls for Lakewood in the last few nervous minutes to enable Lakewood to take all 3 points and put the team up to 3rd in the league with a game in hand.
