Lakewood under 17’s put in a magnificent battling performance against all the odds In the end losing on penalties after the game finished 3:3 after extra time. Every one of the squad were immense battling from 2 nil down at halftime to finish the 90 minutes at 2 all with goals from Derek Feeney and Tyreik Wright playing for the last 25 minutes with 10 men after the ref wrongly sent off a Lakewood player when it should have been a free for Lakewood! Into extra time another brutal decision by the ref to send another Lakewood player off. Playing with 9 men now the lads were magnificent battling for every ball with 2 minutes to go Carrigaline scored what looked like the winner but this Lakewood team dug deep and scored an equaliser in the last minute through Jamie O’Sullivan. Into the lottery that is penalties and it was a bridge to far for these warriors. Everyone was brilliant and Dereck Sheehan Paul Allen and Greg Allen are so proud of the heart and battling qualities that everybody showed and each and everyone of ye can hold her heads up high.
