Lakewood 6 : 0 Midleton (HT 2:0).
Lakewood Scorers; Emily Shanahan x2, Heidi O’Sullivan x2, Holly Kierans x1, Sadbh McGoldrick x1.
Lakewood round off a very rewarding week with a second 3-point haul at home to a resilient Midleton this evening. In a first half Lakewood were made to work very hard for their 2 goal lead, through a left footed strike in the box from Emily Shanahan after 10 minutes and the second from Holly Kierans with strong running through the centre after 25 minutes.
In the second half Lakewood started to play the ball around, finding each other with passes from the back through to the strikers. This composure helped to unlock the Midleton defence on four more occasions. Firstly, through the boot of Heidi O Sullivan whose second was a beautifully chipped effort after spotting the Midleton keeper off her line. Emily Shanahan alertness in the box ensured she latched on to the breaking ball, this time slotting with her right.
The final goal of the game came through the superb running and ball control of Sadbh McGoldrick who, after breaking down attack, took the ball from inside her own half and went on a mazy run slotting the ball neatly to the net.
For the second time in a week the Lakewood were aptly served in defence by Sadbh & Maedbh McGoldrick, Niamh O Shea, Aoife Barrett and Lily May O Farrell. Through the middle Sophie O’Connell and Laura Hill again broke down and set up attack after attack. Upfront Luck Cronin, Cliona Crowley and Ciara Taheny were industrious.
