Div 6 U12 Wilton United B 2 Lakewood Athletic B 2

Points were shared in a thrilling encounter this evening at Pat Bowdren Park between two in form teams. The Lakewood players were slow settling into the match and everyone knew this was going to be a close battle. The deadlock was broken after 20 minutes when the ref awarded a soft penalty to Wilton Utd. It was blasted into the top corner leaving keeper Tareq Ibrahiam little chance. It was Tareq who kept Lakewood in the match with at least 4 top class saves in the first half as Wilton piled on the pressure to get the second.

After half time Tareq made another fine save from a long range shot but the ball ended up in the path of a Wilton player who shot it into the far corner. With two goals down it was Lakewoods turn to pile on the pressure, and after a period of dominance the goal came. Owen Beamish sprinted down the wing crossing the ball to Bradley Keane whose shot hit the post rebounding into the path of Luke Davis to dispatch into the net. Lakewood continued to dominate the match and another goal came 5 minutes later. Oscar Rickard delivered another fine corner that was headed clear by one of the tall Wilton players to Jack Davis who promptly passed it back out wide for Oscar to pump the ball in again. Luke managed to get on the end of it and pass it to Bradley to put it into the back of the net. All square now and Wilton looked ripe for the taking. A David Rainsford freekick from distance hit the post minutes later but Wilton came back with several fast breaks following this. A last minute freekick from Jake O’Kelly just sailed over the bar to leave the match all square at the whistle. Possibly a fair result but Lakewood finished stronger and could probably have grabbed it in the last few minutes. An outstanding team performance from this group of lads who battled back from 2 nil down to deservedly get the point.
