Lakewood 7 – 1 Springfield (HT 2-0)

Lakewood started the brighter with an early 2 goal lead within the first ten minutes. Eimear Kiely and Daire Kiely both finding the net after good passing play in quick succession. Daire making a mazey run into the box, finishing low to the corner with her left.  Springfield defense made it difficult for the remainder of the half and their keeper pulled off some fine saves.

The second half offered more space on the ball and Lakewood perhaps more clinical with the finishes.  Megan Sheehan took a brace, the first of which a deft dink found the net. Niamh O’Donoghue did well to finish an in swinging cross from the foot of Christine Coffey. Sheehan turned provider for Eimear Kiely’s second goal with a beautifully weighted through ball. From a corner Daire Kiely’s pull back to Claire Nevin just inside the box closed off Lakewood scoring, with a pin point strike to the top corner.

Some excellent passing play throughout the Lakewood team, captain Kelly Buckley and Jessie Morley putting in tireless work up front. Both unlucky to get on the score sheet themselves but contributed a lot in general play.

Springfield made Lakewood work hard for every play throughout the game. For their efforts deservedly got their goal on the 80th minute, pressuring the Lakewood defense and a clean strike found the net.
