Lakewood Athletic 8 – 3 Midleton
Lakewood played hosts to a big physical Midleton team in this Monday night fixture. The first half started well for Lakewood with Tadhg opening the scoring after only 1 minute but this was cancelled out minutes later when Lakewood scored an own goal from a dangerous Midleton cross into the area. The game developed into a scrappy affair with little regard to player positioning with both teams slugging it out. Lakewood created lots of chances and could have scored several times in the opening half but the shots were too close to the Midleton keeper. When Lakewood did score again Midleton equalised moments later. The Lakewood defensive line was caught too high up the pitch once more and Midleton burst through to score with Luke just getting both hands to it. Half time came and Lakewood were trailing 3-2. A stern talking at half time and Lakewood came out playing the passing football they demonstrated in the opening game of the season. Midleton could not cope with the revitalised Lakewood team and 6 goals went in unanswered to secure the 3 points for the home team. A great team performance once more with strong performances from Tadhg, Owen and Paul.
