Lakewood Athletic B 2 – Douglas Hall A 7
A disappointing morning for the home team. Lakewood continued their disappointing practice of conceding early goals with one within 2 minutes. The Lakewood defence was competing but the speed and physicality of the visitors no. 7 was proving too much and a second was conceded soon after. Lakewood pulled one back when David Rainsford dispatched a well placed free kick into the bottom right corner beyond the reach of the outstretched Douglas Hall keeper. Lakewood were competing now but just not converting chances and the visitors went 3-1 up. A saved penalty kick from Lakewoood failed to close the gap for the home team and half time came with the visitors 3-1 up. The second half continued in much the same style with the visitors counter attacking in numbers with sheer physical strength and speed causing the loss of 3 more goals. Moeez Khan got a goal back from inside the box before the visitors final goal. Lakewood showed promise on the right wing with a strong performance from Fintan O’Leary. Charlie Delaney also put a serious effort in, running himself into the ground. The opposition could have scored more but for another strong defensive performance from Owen Beamish with his tracking, tackling and determination. A match the Lakewood players and managers will need to learn from when facing other physical teams this season.
