U15 Premier League.
Lakewood Athletic 2 Richmond 2
They say when your struggling a little you don’t seem to get the breaks and this game epitomized that perfectly.  Needing the three points the Lakewood commitment and determination was never questioned as the lads pushed and probed constantly for the opener which we thought would never come due to resolute Richmond defending and a dearth of any luck for Lakewood in front of goal.
Eventually it came with 20mins left as Jack Mellerick was taken out on the edge of the box driving through and Eoghan O’Sullivan beautifully placed the free around the wall and in to the corner. Unbelievably Richmond drew level with 7 mins to go when a hopeful ball into the box was toed home past the despairing dive of stand in keeper Morgan Foley who had dealt very capably with the few Richmond attacks up to then.
It got even worse with 3 mins left as a totally offside Richmond player was waved on, taken down and penalty scored for 1-2. Lakewood weren’t done though and when Eoghan Sullivan’s powerful shot cannoned down off the bar, there was Fionn O Shea to head neatly into the net in the final minute. It was the least the lads deserved following an excellent display and Richmond will be well pleased to have gone home with a point.
