Midleton 1 – 1 Lakewood (AET) 3-4 penalties Q/F Una Moore Cup

It was always going to be tricky prospect playing away in the quarter final to a strong first division opposition. It was made more difficult when due to illness and availability just 10 players lined out on the day.

Heidi O'SullivanA goal in 4 minutes put Lakewood ahead. Lucy Morley putting in the hard work chasing on the right wing.  Her pressure reaped reward and the cross found Heidi O’Sullivan in the box who calmy found the corner of the net.

The first half saw both teams with chances. Abby Murphy almost put through to put Lakewood 2 ahead. Ciara Taheny on the wing creating chances and on her debut for the U14’s Emer Slattery was a tricky customer on the right wing. Laura Hill put in a strong performance in the centre of midfield making some crucial tackles.

Midleton levelled the game before half time with a well cU14 Midleton Cup Gameontrolled ball in the box and an unstoppable strike to the net. As the game progressed and legs tired the game opened up. In the centre of defence Sadbh McGoldrick was calmness personified as she managed 1 v 1 situations.  Meadbh McGoldrick and Clara Daly were on their toes and put in some great tackles. Supporting play going forward.

In goal Clodagh Fitzgerald kept Lakewood in the game. With 2 crucial point blank saves. One just before the end of normal time and the second in extra time. The play overall from both teams was very positive and it was a well contested game.

It took penalties to seperate the teams Ciara Tahney, Laura Hill, Heidi O’Sullivan hitting the net. With Midleton’s fifth penalty coming off the crossbar it was left to Clara Daly with an opportunity to win the game.

Daly struck the ball well, sneaking just inside the post beyond the reach of the Midleton keeper to put her team through to the Semi Final.
