U14 Una Moore Cup: Lakewood 6 : Fermoy 1 (HT 2:0).
An all-round positive team performance from Lakewood ensured that they progressed to the next round of the Una Moore Cup against a strong and well organised Fermoy side.
Lakewood settled the nerves early and after 5 minutes had the ball in the Fermoy net after Sophie O Connell connected sweetly with a ball breaking from a corner. Heidi O Sullivan doubled the score after 20 minutes with a beautifully slotted shot after taking the ball on from her own half way line.
Fermoy started stronger in the second half and had one back within 10 minutes. Lakewood’s reaction was a positive one as they got the ball down and started to play their passing game. Within 5 minutes Abby Murphy connected with a Ciara Taheny cross to put Lakewood back in control. Provider then turned scorer when she broke behind the defence and pushed the ball past the onrushing Fermoy keeper. Heidi O Sullivan had the last goal of the day to complete her hatrick, executing a sublime 30 yd strike to the back of the Fermoy net.
All good victories start with the defence and a strong defensive performance from Sadbh, Niamh, Clara and Sophie and especially goal keeper Clodagh on her U14 debut whose was very unlucky to concede after pulling off a spectacular save. The industrious midfield and strikers of Laura, Robyn, Maedbh,Lucy and Kamille all played well and contributed hugely to a great result.
