U14 CWSSL Una Moore Cup – 1st round
Lakewood AFC 10: Springfield Ramblers 0.
Lakewood Scorers: Heidi O Sullivan x 5, Katie Lee x 3, Laura Hill x 1, Maebh McGoldrick x 1.
Lakewood U14 girls started the new year with an impressive victory and most importantly their first clean sheet of the season. Heidi O Sullivan got Lakewood on the scoreboard within 2 minutes with a well-executed strike to the top of the net leaving the keeper with no chance. Katie Lee followed with her first 5 minutes later connecting well with the ball to finish in to the top corner. Lakewood would score again 5 times before the break through Heidi x 2, Katie x1 and Laura Hill scoring her first goal of the season from the right wing after making a good run to connect with a loose ball in the box.
Lakewood continued their good form in front of goal in the second half with and another goal each for Heidi and Katie. Maebh McGoldrick the youngest player on the Lakewood side had the last goal of the game when she saw her shot hit the corner of the net for her first U14 goal of the season.
Overall it was a strong performance from the girls who dealt with a counter attacking Springfield Ramblers side through good defending from Sadbh McGoldrick, Holly Kierans, Sophie’ O Connell, Emily Shanahan, Aoife Barrett and Allie Mullins O Keefe in goals. The midfield worked tirelessly with Niamh O Shea, Lily May O’Farrell and Ciara Taheny and Lucy Cronin pushing forward at every opportunity.
