U14 National Cup
St Mary’s 0 Lakewood Athletic 3
Lakewood advanced to both the open draw and regional semi finals of the national cup with a superb performance away to previously unbeaten St Mary’s.  Having knocked out premier leaders Corinthians in the last round St Mary’s were favoured in their own back yard but met a well organised and determined Lakewood who battled and fought for every ball and once they weathered the early Mary’s storm played confidently and cleverly all over the park. Scoreless at half time one sensed that Lakewood were starting to take a grip and they took the lead early in the second period through Michael Murphy as his high floating cross to the far post dropped under the bar  and proved too hot to handle for the home keeper. A beautiful passing movement involving Colm Quigley, Daniel O Driscoll and Morgan Foley saw the ball teed up for Jamie Dineen to drive home from the edge of the box for 2-0 with 17mins left and a poor goalkeeping clearance was intercepted by Jamie with 6mins to go just inside the Mary’s half which he superbly returned  with interest over the scrambling keeper to seal the win. Lakewood will go on to meet the winners of Mallow or Macroom in the regional semis and also await the open draw with interest.
