Leeside A 0 Lakewood Athletic A 1

In the last league game of the season, Denis O’Sullivan and Andrew Keane, managed this team to a crucial away win.

The first half was very competitive with Lakewood creating a few chances but not converting. Tareq Ibrahiam put his body on the line to pull off a superb save, injuring himself in the process, to keep the home team from scoring. Throughout the match the defence was solid with Adam English and Diarmuid O’Keefe immense in the centre, Jack Brady made some great runs up the right wing, Aaron Smyth solid too at left back. Half time came with honours even at nil all.

Lakewood started the second half with great intent. Several attacks from Ross McCarthy, Charlie Delaney and Ronan O’Sullivan, having a few forays into the box but lacking a clinical finish. Tadhg Tuathaigh, Owen Beamish, Jack O’Sullivan and Michael Murphy were also strong in midfield. Both Tadhg and Darragh O’Regan made incisive dribbles into the box but just couldn’t get shots away before being surrounded by defenders. After period of sustained pressure, Leeside failed to clear the ball and Bradley Keane seized his opportunity and scored the goal from a volley. Just rewards for the continual pressure and possession. Continued pressure from the visitors saw Oscar Rickard hit the crossbar from a free kick from 30yrds out on left wing. Leeside were not for rolling over though and tried to salvage a draw launching several attacks keeping Lakewood’s defence busy with Tareq punching clear loose balls from corners. But the visiting Lakewood team held out for the 3 points which keeps them top of the division at the moment. Teams below have games in hand but this result should see the team finish in the top 3 after losing just once in the 14 games played. Excellent season lads regardless of where we finish.
