U14 Division 5

Lakewood Athletic A 6 Leeside A 3

Three wins on the trot for this U14 team but they were made to work very hard for the win today against another much physically bigger team. The first half started well for the home team with Tadhg Tuathaig continuing his scoring run after a sprint down the wing and a neat strike over the keeper. Oscar Rickard was on fire again with his delivery from corners and frees, this lead to Lakewoods second as Oscars pin point cross was put away by Owen Beamish. Leeside were handed a lifeline as confusion in the Lakewood area resulted in the visiting team scoring. Order was restored a few minutes later as another superb corner from Oscar left Kerry William with the ball to dispatch to the back of the net. Half time and 3-1 up to Lakewood but a warning against complacency was issued at the break to ensure all 3 points were going to remain at Lakewood.

A second half penalty awarded to Leeside, that was subsequently put into the right corner, raised the visiting teams expectations. Daniel McCarthy, from the U13s, put that belief to bed once more with a lovely volley into the Leeside net. However Leeside were not ready to roll over just yet and a sliced volley outside the area ended up  going into the far top corner. With only 1 goal separating the teams Lakewood needed to kill the game off quickly, ask and you shall receive. Jack Davis launched a lovely long ball from kick off that Kerry put away with composure to give the home team the 2 goal cushion they needed for the dying minutes. But this free scoring Lakewood team were not about to ease up and Daniel got his well deserved brace after a great free kick from Jack came to him to put away. A high scoring game, with Lakewood nearly scoring 3 more goals in the match and Leeside only looking like scoring 1 more goal bar a great save from Luke Davis, it may have felt a closer game at the time but on reflection the 3 points were deservedly staying at Lakewood.

No man of the match this week as every player chased down every ball to the last whistle. Special mention for Arran Smyth at left back who chased down a few Leeside strikers to prevent a one on one with the keeper; Daniel for his work rate (the brace was handy too!, and lastly the entire defence of Jack O’Sullivan (U13), Adam English, Diarmuid O’Keeffe (U13), Arran and Jack (CDM) for limiting their goal scoring chances. Well done lads!
