A great start for last year’s division 3 champions but they were really made to dig deep for the points by a strong Kinsale side who were probably unlucky to leave empty handed. Having to defend for long periods in the first half with Nathan Davis a rock, Lakewood came more into it in the second with good outlets in strong running wingers Jack Mellerick and Adam O Sullivan and indeed the winner came when Jack switched inside to Dean Carey and his precise ball to Fionn OShea was helped on to Adam who drove sweetly across the keeper for the only goal. Dave Hurleys early nerves evaporated and he kept his goal intact in the final minutes to preserve what could be a massive 3pts.
The fierce determination and commitment which is the hallmark of this side carried the day.
