U14 take 3 points away from home in league battle

U14 Premier

Passage 0 : 4 Lakewood (HT 0 : 1).

Lakewood came out on top on what was a keenly contested affair in Rockenham.   Passage started the brightest of the two teams and could have been 2 up within five minutes with a well struck effort rising over the bar and the second a point blank save from the in form goalkeeper Clodagh Fitzgerald when she found herself one on one with the Passage striker.

Lakewood’s first effort fell to Lucy Morley whose good running found her behind the Passage defence, her shot falling narrowly wide.  Lakewood eventually settled and after 20 minutes went one up when Heidi O Sullivan, played in by Ciara Taheny, beat two players in the box to slot the ball to the net.

Playing with the slope in the second half Lakewood’s hard work began to pay off, Heidi O Sullivan added her second side footing to the net when she found herself one on one with the Passage keeper.  With the well marshalled defence of Sadbh & Maedbh McGoldrick alongside Clara Daly and Laura Hill, the platform to exert more pressure on Passage was evident.   Kamille Riskute added Lakewood’s third after 50 minutes when she connected with a loose ball in the box. The fourth and final goal of the day was from the penalty spot when Heidi O Sullivan was brought down in the box and she completed her hat-trick.

Miletta Riskute worked tirelessly in the centre with Ali Hayes working very hard to stem Passage attacks from the front, the latter stepping up from U12’s to play her first U14 game of the season.

The most notable Lakewood performance of the afternoon came from the other U14 debutant Shannon Murphy who had a great battle with one of Passage’s best players on the day, Jane Finlay.  Shannon excelled on the wing, a constant outlet for balls from midfield and defence, executed some excellent crosses and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet.

A great performance from a hardworking Lakewood team.
