U16 Premier: Blarney 0 Lakewood 1
A 75th minute winner by Lakewood centre-half Conor McGoldrick proved the difference in this tight contest against a disciplined Blarney side, which lifted the away team up to 4th in the premier league table. Lakewood had the best chances in the 1st half. A Ryan Nolan one-on-one with the keeper and a James Hickey goal ruled offside.
In the 2nd half, shots from Mark, Jamie and Kasper and a header from Dan all went close, while James hit the post. In the last quarter, Lakewood pushed on and after a flurry of corners and crosses, the pressure told on the Blarney defence. Josh bravely attacked a free-kick delivered from out wide by Jamie, and after the ball came back out off the keeper, Conor hammered it into the roof of the net. A match in which Lakewood retained the majority of possession with everyone passing it well, especially Patrick O’Neill who had a very good game.
At the back Brian, Conor, Jake and Liam were dominant throughout, and were well marshalled by goalie Dara Dorgan who also denied Blarney their best chance of the game when he brilliantly clawed out a long range effort at full stretch.
