Lakewood Athletic A 2 Mallow United A 2

In another fiercely contested match against last years league runners up, the visiting team of Mallow United snatched a last minute goal for the spoils to be shared once more. Earlier in the season the same fixture in Mallow ended with the same scoreline when it was Lakewoods turn to come from 2 nil down and grab a point.

In what was a very even battle in the first half, the home team came in 1 goal up after Ronan Murphy was brought down in the box. Jack Davis expertly put the ball into the top corner just beyond the goalkeepers reach in the resulting penalty. After half time Lakewood started slowly and a lack of closing down allowed Mallow to get a shot away which went in to the top of the net beyond Luke Davis in goal. Oscar Rickard took Lakewood back into the lead from a fine free kick which the Mallow keeper was unable to hold. Lakewood held onto this lead through some fine saves from Luke and very nearly extended their lead with some great play by Owen Beamish, Michael Murphy and Daniel McCarthy. The visitors snatched the equaliser in the closing minutes in what was a very competitive match. A great team performance once more against strong opposition which keeps this Lakewood team second in the table.
