City Challenge Cup

Lakewood 3 Dunbar  3 set Lakewood win 5  4 on Pens

A penalty shootout saw Lakewood Junior B’s advance into the second round of the City Challenge Cup at the expense of Dunbar Celtic. This was a remarkable and resilient performance from a side who found themselves 2-0 down early in the second half . The comeback was sparked by great goal from a free kick struck by Colin McCarthy. Dunbar struck back with a third but great determination and team spirit saw Lakewood score two late goals through Stephen Wallace to take the tie to extra time.

While both sides created opportunities the deadlock remained unbroken and so to penalties. Lakewood scored their 5 through Luke Linehan, Eoin O’Riordan , Josh Tannion , Colin McCarthy and Ger McSweeney. This was a great team performance by Lakewood. Man of the match was undoubtedly Rian O’Keeffe who in addition to saving a penalty made a number of vital saves during the match
