U18 CWSSL Premier League

Lakewood AFC 5 – 1 Riverstown FC

An early gift in the 3rd minute gave Lakewood the perfect start with the opener from Megan Sheehan who did well pushing forward and reacting quickest to the loose ball in the 6 yard box. Sheehan was central to the 2nd goal, breaking from defense spreading the ball wide to Meghan Carr who won the throw.  Sheehan’s quick throw found Zara Foley who pulled it back to Eabha O’Mahony on the edge of the box.  O’Mahony hit a sweet curling ball out of the keepers reach to put Lakewood 2 ahead.

It didn’t all go Lakewood’s way in the first half and a tremendous goal brought Riverstown right back into the fixture. Picking up the ball in midfield, the Riverstown player did excellent to round a defender and she rifled a shot from 30 yards to the net. 2-1 half time score and the defensive line of Amy O’Carroll, Emma O’Connor, Ella McCarthy, Heather Kennedy and Maria O’Sullivan was kept busy throughout the first half.

The start of the second half was tight, with both teams tussling for dominance. For the 3rd goal Zara Foley found the net from her corner, deflecting off a defender into the net.  The game opened up and Sheehan started to find the through balls and space. Her well timed ball through to Foley put the game out of reach as 1 on 1 Foley kept her cool to slot low past the onrushing keeper.

2018 U18 v RiverstownOn the left wing Ellen Sheridan and Niamh O’Donoghue were a threat in the second half playing some beautiful linking football. O’Donoghue’s mazey run into the box and pull back to Jessie Morley who’s first touch finish rattled the net was a sublime move. To the delight of the squad who celebrated with her on opening her goal scoring account for Lakewood.

The result keeps Lakewood on top of the table with their next fixture away to Carrigaline on 25th March a crucial game.
