April 18th 2018 – Lakewood Athletic FC has signed contracts with SIS Pitches for the construction of a new fully floodlit all-weather artificial pitch to FIFA Quality Standard. Construction on the new facility will commence in the coming weeks and be completed in time for the new season in August of this year.
Welcoming the development, Lakewood Athletic FC Chairman Joe Dillon commented “Today is an important step along the way in a transformative development for the club. The new facility will allow us to continue to grow our player numbers and given our women, men, boys and girls at all levels the very best of facilities. It will mean that we can continue to train and play through long periods of wet weather, something that has been particularly difficult for us on our grass pitches in two of the last three years. We also will have the space to take on more academy players. This is great news for the locality.”
The company selected to provide the artificial turf technology and construction services is SIS Pitches, a leading international group in this sector, who was selected in a competitive tender process. Mark Barry of SIS Pitches commented at the contract signing that “The same type of yarn that will be used for the Lakewood pitch will be used in four SIS pitches that are being installed for the FIFA World Cup in Russia this summer. We are really looking forward to building a fantastic facility for Lakewood, a successful club that continues to grow talent. We are delighted that our products and expertise have been chosen for this exciting project.”
Lakewood Athletic FC is one of the constituent clubs of the John A Wood Ltd Sports & Social Club, whose Vice Chairman, Billy Webster, officially signed on behalf of Lakewood.
