Brave Performance from U14s in Cup

Sun Sept 16th

U14 Leonard Gould Cup
Avondale United A 3 Lakewood Athletic A 1

A bare minimum squad, from the very small panel, attended today’s match. Even some of the players on field were carrying injuries but that didn’t deter the visiting team. 2 nil down at half time and the only chance was Luke Davis’s rasping shot from the right wing that the keeper managed to save. A change in formation at halftime saw Lakewood get a goal back through Kerry William. Tadhg Tuathaigh was covering some ground from defence to striker to help the team. The Davis twins of Jack and Luke were buzzing in a combined CDM role with headers and slide tackles stopping further Avondale advances. Unfortunately Lakewood couldn’t quite manage to build on the goal as exhaustion and injuries took its toll. Bradley Keane made a great save to keep Lakewood in the running. 2 goals were needed to get the win as extra time wasn’t an option for the visitors. Avondale managed to kill the game off in the closing stages, possibly much to the relief of the visitors who were absolutely exhausted. Great team effort throughout with a man of the match performance from Luke Davis
