2 goals in the first 7 minutes gave Lakewood the perfect start in a high tempo competitive fixture. Niamh O’Donoghue from the penalty spot calmy put the away team 1 up after Zara Foley was brought down. From the restart Megan Sheehan put Lakewood 2 ahead after pressing the defense and hitting a beauty from outside the D.
Home Farm bounced back and Maria O’Sullivan was busy between the sticks orchestrating a tight Lakewood defensive line. The lead was narrowed to 1 on the 32nd minute when Home Farm finished from close range from a rebound. Half time score of 2-1.
The second half saw both teams with chances and it was an epic encounter to bear witness to as both teams gave it their all. The Lakewood players worked tirelessly and sealed the game on the 85th minute with an Emma O’Connor free kick that dipped in under the crossbar Much to the delight of the Lakewood squad, coaching team and parents who travelled in numbers to support.
The hospitality of the home club after the match was much appreciated in what was a well contested game of football.
