Lakewood Athletic B 2 Mallow United A 2

If you needed an exciting start to your Bank Holiday Monday you were at the right place at Lakewood this morning. A clash between table toppers Mallow United and chasing Lakewood had end to end action from the offset. The first goal came early on to the visitors. The failure to close down a player, who went straight through the middle, resulted in the ball in the back of the net. Lakewood regrouped and started their own offensive after that shock. A Lakewood corner from Jake O’Kelly came back out to him and he whipped the ball in for it to hit the crossbar. A lucky escape for Mallow United. The game continued at a ferocious pace with end to end action. Lakewood equalised at 15 minutes when Paul Omoshule’s great shot hit the post and rebounded out for Tadhg Tuathaigh to half volley in. Lakewoods lead was short lived as the Mallow winger managed to get a rasping shot inside the near post to take it to half time with the visitors in the lead.

Lakewood started the second half with all the possession and within minutes were level once more. Paul had worked his way through the defence and shot high and powerfully into the top of the net. Lakewood continued their pressure but just couldn’t get the end product but Mallow were very dangerous on the break. Fintan O’Leary was on a special assignment, stay so close to their fast powerful no. 12 that he would know what he had for breakfast. This reduced Mallows number of fast breaks but the 2 times he did get loose Fintan expertly caught him and tackled him to prevent near certain goals. Second half keeper David Rainsford pulled off a spectacular save whilst back peddling to prevent another goal. Lakewood had further chances in this gripping encounter but it finished level with the Lakewood team the first to take any points from this Mallow United outfit
