U14 Div 5

Watergrasshill 2 Lakewood A 4

Back to back wins for this gutsy U14 team away to Watergrasshill, superbly supported by Daniel McCarthy and Jack Brady from the U13’s. The physically large home team opened the scoring with a simple ball through the Lakewood defence which left the keeper one on one with the advancing striker. Kerry William continued his scoring run with the equaliser minutes later as a ball through the home defence left him also one on one with a keeper and the ball was put calmly into the corner. The strong defence of Jack Brady, Jack Davis, Adam English and Owen Beamish had learned from their earlier mistake and left no space behind for the home team to put a ball over the top and Watergrasshill were left with only long range efforts which were dealt with by calm keeper Luke Davis or went wide. Tadhg Tuathaig has been beavering away at every match, putting a serious shift in each of the games, and today he got himself on the score sheet with a brilliant shot on the edge of the area which hit the inside of the post and then into the back of the net. 2-1 up at half-time and the opening goal of the second half would be so important.

Lakewood were pressing for the ‘safety’ of a 2 goal cushion but it was the home team that got the first goal after a lapse in the defences concentration left a Watergrasshill player with an easy strike. Multiple injuries for Lakewood meant a severe rotation of players in this half with solid Bradley Keane replacing Luke in goal and Tadhg having to come off. Moeez Khan and Charlie Delaney were swapping with Ross McCarthy, Daniel and Bradley throughout the game expertly keeping the pressure on the home team. At this point it looked likely that the buoyant home team would secure all 3 points but team captain Kerry William grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and scored a brace down the right wing to kill the game off.

Great team effort throughout but special mentions for Adam, Jack B and Jack D, Daniel and Kerry with his hatrick
