U13 Div 3 CHAMPIONS!!!!
Douglas Hall A 1 Lakewood A 3.
A solid and committed display from Lakewood saw them crowned deserved league champions after a great season of consistency and commitment and no little flair. Played on the astro pitch and with a strong breeze blowing in their faces Lakewood defended comfortably in the first quarter and Cathal ODriscoll dealt calmly with anything that got through. Looking very dangerous when pushing forward Lakewood grabbed the lead goal when Adam O’Sullivan outstripped the home defence and finished well for 1-0. Douglas equalised on 25mins when a long free was allowed bounce in the box and the striker nodded over the advancing Cathal. The home joy was short-lived though as captain Fionn OShea outmuscled the centre back in the box and squared for Jack Mellerick to stroke home the lead for Lakewood at half time. Playing with the breeze in the second half Lakewood were on the front foot and the tremendous back four of Liam, Tadgh, Dara and Ben were dominant. Richard tested the keeper with a long free and along with Conor Eagles and Daragh Kealy bosses the midfield. Fionn curled in a beauty from the edge of the box for 3-1 and another great ball from Adam was stroked home by Jack but he was a fraction offside. Conor Morey put in a few nice tackles when introduced and Padraig, Dylan and Fionn Donoghue came in to see out the win. A great squad effort all year reflected again as Lakewood were missing regulars David Hurley, Nathan Davis and Diarmuid Ward due to holidays all 3 having played major roles in this season’s success.
