In an absolute cracker between the two best teams in the league Park utd capitalised on an early Lakewood error and survived a second half onslaught from the visitors to claim a massive 3pts in the title race. Physically far bigger and stronger Park started well without causing real danger until a speculative ball over the top was misjudged on the edge of the box on 15mins and the Park winger drove his shot hard and low to the net to the delight of the large home crowd.
That crowd lived on their nerves in the second half as the huge hearts and determination of this Lakewood team again shone through. Winning tackles they had no right to and creating numerous chances, shots rang in from Conor Eagles, Jack Mellerick and Liam Linehan in a more advanced role without success and when Jack’s shot rattled the bar and was cleared you felt it wasn’t going to be. Lakewood so deserved to claim at least a point but lady luck didn’t shine through.
Heads can be held high for a tremendous performance though and there may be a twist or two to come yet.
