U14 Div 5

Lakewood Athletic A 4 Kinsale 6

A thrilling encounter this morning between a much fancied visiting Kinsale team and the short numbered Lakewood home team. Lakewood were one up after 3 minutes when Jack Davis nicely put away an awarded penalty. It was all even at 6 minutes when the visiting team equalized from a goal line scramble. Lakewood struggled with some of Kinsale’s very rapid and skillful players, who would walk into any U14 premier squad. A succession of 4 Kinsale goals looked to put the game beyond Lakewood’s grasp. However a classic Kerry William goal, 1 on 1 with the keeper, just before half time gave the Lakewood team some hope.

Lakewood started the second half well with Kerry getting his brace with a superb strike whilst running down the right wing and the ball ending up in the top left corner.5-3 now and game on. Kinsale managed to get a further goal from a corner but should have scored another when one of their star players, the short rapid no.11, expertly struck a volley first time from a cross and it looked like it was heading into the far right of the net. In fact, the Lakewood manager could be heard shouting ”What a go…” but had to alter to “…Save.” As Luke Davis made a miraculous save. Tadhg Tuathaigh nearly got himself on the score sheet but his close range effort was blocked by the keeper only for the ball to fall to Kerry who put it away for his hat-trick.

As the saying goes, a game of two halves. Kinsale dominated the first half but Lakewood showed what they are made of in the second half. A solid debutant performance from U13 Jack O’ Sullivan, team mate of our other U13 player Diarmuid O’ Keeffe. Great team performance throughout.
