Lakewood Athletic A 2 Ringmahon Rangers A 2

In a highly entertaining home match, the Lakewood boys had to settle for a share of the points with last years runaway league winners. This is the first time that this Lakewood team has managed to get any points against this fast Ringmahon team after 2 defeats last season. This is testament to the effort put in throughout this season and during the match by this much improving Lakewood team.

Lakewood opened the scoring 10 minutes in when Ross McCarthy pounced on a goal keeping error to fire the ball into the back of the net from just inside the area. Ringmahon didn’t waste any time levelling the score with a fine long distance free kick went just under the cross bar. The visitors took the lead only minutes later when a run down the wing resulted in a powerful shot that Tareq Ibrahiam had no chance with. The frantic pace subsided somewhat as both midfield’s battled for dominance with Lakewood having more opportunities going forwards. One of these resulted in Captain Oscar Rickard delivering another fine corner that the Ringmahon defender headed into his own net. All level and 4 goals in the first 20 minutes. I am sure that the odds would have been well in favour of at least another 2 or 3 goals but that’s how the scoreline finished. Both teams did have chances throughout the remainder of the first half and the whole of the second half but just could not convert them. Tareq made several outstanding one on one saves to prevent Ringmahon scoring any further goals but all even is how the game ended. Great team effort and commitment throughout to get a point when the team were not playing at their best.
