Strand 1 Lakewood 0

Lakewood lost to Strand today in a game that is not reflected by the score line. From the start Lakewood were well on top and controlled the play, early efforts from Ciaran Buckley and Dylan Quinn had the Strand keeper working hard. 5 corners in the first half gave scoring chances but somehow the goal remained elusive. Shadrach, Luke and Paul dominated the midfield this trio all had shots go just wide or over. Brian Dore had a fantastic long range shot almost break the crossbar.
Lakewood were playing next level football and could smell blood but out of nowhere Strand scored with a world class, long range shot.
A stunning goal, which very few keepers would have stopped.
1 nil at the break.
80% of the second half took place in the opposition’s side. Some very questionable decisions saw the lads start to get frustrated, Brian and Pete received yellows for minor fouls, but they pulled it back and were playing brilliant football. Again their keeper proved to be decisive somehow keeping Lakewood at bay. A few minutes from the end and Ciaran put a ball square across the face of goal inside the 6 yard box but somehow it sailed straight over the bar after Luke got a foot to it. Just one of those days.

While it was a disappointing result, I have to say the effort put in by the lads today was second to none, huge respect.
