Lakewood Athletic U14s overcame a determined Youghal side in the semi-final of the cup to secure a well deserved day in Turners Cross late this month. In what was a perfect evening for football
Lakewood started the brightest with Kamile Riskute in superb form found herself through on goalt wice just to miss the target. On her third opportunity, she made no mistake slotting the ball to the net at the back-post home after an excellent cross from inform midfielder Laura Hill. Lakewood doubled their lead she before half time with an excellent strike from Ciara Taheny. Youghal were well organised and had in goals and excellent goalkeeper who made it difficult to make any further breakthroughs.
The turning point for the came just after the halftime break, Youghal broke through the Lakwood defence, their striker finding herself one on one with the Lakewood keeper Clodagh Fitzgerald who showed immense bravery to make a point blank save. The next play resulted in a third goal for Lakewood sharp shooter Heidi O Sullivan swinging the game in favour of Lakewood. Youghal never gave up the fight for the game which was sealed when Laura Hill latched on to a breaking ball in the box sending it in to the roof of the net.
Lakewood Athletic have plenty to work on ahead of their day in Turners Cross but great credit to a team who have worked extremely hard in training to get to this final.
