Co-ordinatior of the Lakewood Girls Academy Chris Condon was a delighted recipient of a Cork AUL Cork Soccer Honour Distinguished Service Award for her contribution to women’s soccer in Cork as a Player, Coach and Administrator. Typical of her modesty, in receiving the award Chris dedicated it to all female football players “I feel this award is for all the Women players that went before me and all the girls that will come behind me”. Lakewood AFC are proud and lucky to have her in our Club.

8DE55B70-1075-4CA6-BA1A-845A30154A57Chris’s playing career was highly successful. She started with the Mayfield minors, played with Leesiders and Captained Cork Celtic when they won the U18 Cup. In the adult league Kileady Utd were her team where she rceceived her first call up to the Irish Senior Squad. She then went on to play with Cork Rangers where they captured the League of Ireland Championship and Presidents Cup.

Chris also took her passion for football off the field where she was one of the founders of the Cork Women’s Schoolgirls League and also a coach in Wilton schoolgirls.

She joined Lakewood AFC when Cork Rangers senior Women’s amalgamated with the schoolgirls section of Lakewood.  She kept her interest in supporting the league administration with 17 years on the Cork Women’s Schoolgirls and Senior Leagues in various roles over the years as Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer. She also supported representative teams for the Gaynor Cup and most recently the Cork U18 team who won the National Interleague trophy in 2017.

Chris currently coordinates the Lakewood girls Academy where every Sunday morning she oversees over 50 girls practising their football skills. Something when she first started playing would never have been possible. Chris volunteers to ensure they have the opportunity to enjoy the game she loves. Her experience and knowledge has positively influenced countless girls and women’s football experience that have come through the club, including the young players with International ambitions.

Thank you to Cork AUL for choosing Chris and giving her the privilege of being the first ever women’s league soccer player/administrator recognised. Chris really deserve it. Thank you Chris
